Save the date: On November 19, 2025, we will celebrate the official reopening of FabLab Chemnitz!

FABLAB RE-OPENING // 19.11.2025

By Mario Voigt, 16 October, 2025

Dear fans of open workshops

We, Stadtfabrikanten e.V., hereby invite you to the solemnly reopening of our FabLab Chemnitz 2.0 at the Stadtwirtschaft.

Together, we would like to transition from a long period of dismantling tents and setting up new camps to a new mode and toast to this with you. We are not only celebrating our move, but also almost 10 years of our association. In the fall of 2015, we began the preliminary work of founding our association.

⏰ When and where?

On November 19, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Stadtwirtschaft. More specifically, at FabLab and the surrounding area.

🔌 Registration

We would appreciate it if you could register via the following link, as this will help us with our logistical planning. It only takes half a minute!

Special Guest: Hugues Aubin

Hugues Aubin discovered digital fabrication and fablabs in 2011. Since then, he co-created and developed some fablabs, then networks of fablabs and cooperative international projects. These initiatives were built in the field of "Fab city" (the labfab of Rennes), inclusion (My Human Kit "Humanlabs network"), open health ("Makers nord sud" with west african fablabs), and Sustainable Development Goals (forgeCC.org). Hugues is now president of the Climate Change Lab and member of the French Fablab Network international work group.

His lecture "How to build together more than machines" makes a pointed statement: The way you prepare workshops and the making of things together can not only succeed in empowering the people through technical skills, but also make them work together much longer on projects for a long. Cooperation is also a goal that can be reached and pushed further by considering some points before, during, and after the making. Let's speak about it!

Speaker: Maik Jähne (Chemnitz, Dresden, everywhere)

Maik sees himself as a technology explainer and is naturally curious, always on the lookout for ideas and interested in new technologies. In 2013, he came into contact with the Makerspace and FabLab scene rather by chance, first in Dresden and shortly afterwards again in Chemnitz. From the Tech Shop to WerkstadtLaden Dresden and 3D printing in Schneeberg to FabLab Chemnitz: a travelogue about exciting impressions and connections from over 10 years of traveling through Europe and the world, or even a possible answer to the question “Why does the capital of culture application mention 'maker' on every second page …” :-P

Band Solche (Chemnitz)

That's Solche: Founded in 2005 and well-traveled, mostly in the spirit of cultural exchange with Eastern Europe, 500 concerts (and 500 different set lists) throughout Germany, Russia, Switzerland, Czechia, Croatia, and Belarus, one book, four albums, and a small but determined fan base that follows the band's journey and supports it wherever possible. The history of Solche is a smorgasbord of interesting episodes that cannot all be recounted here. From the release party for their first album in a historic tram to the dancing prime minister to concerts on scaffolding or at two different locations at the same time. The important thing is: the journey continues. Solche are: Michael Focken (acoustic bass), Holm Krieger (vocals and acoustic guitar), Mario Krohn (cajon)

More info about Solche can be found at their homepage and Instagram.

Band RosaC (Dresden)

A bouquet of flowers in your face: you'll never forget RosaC (EP 2023) – and how could you, when bittersweet melodies come rushing in? They consist of the intertwined roots of two connecting guitars and a thorny bass that sometimes forgets it's not a guitar. The drumming accompanies it with its little finger raised. The songs are completed by the blossoming voice. It beguiles you with melancholy and longing, only to suddenly, in the finest Riotgrrrl manner, push anger and pain deep under your skin. Meanwhile, the lyrics initiate the guillotine of content, so you won't forget it! (EP 2024) The result is rosy grunge with a sound straight out of the garage and the right glam attitude, honest and personal.

You can find more information about RosaC on Bandcamp and Instagram.

In the foyer - art meets technology

  • 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. // Music with Plants - what do plants sound like? with Hugues Aubin: Live Midi-BLE audio composition with biodata. What does greenery sound like in the urban economy?
  • Also: Indoor projector mapping by Metamerie

In the cafeteria

  • 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. // Chocolate workshop with Richard and Octavio. Please note: The workshop is limited to 15 active participants. There will only be one session, as chocolate making is a lengthy process with several intermediate stages. However, spectators are welcome to come and watch at any time!
  • 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. // Solidarity kitchen aka dinner. A delicious evening meal will be provided by Subbotnik e.V.

In the courtyard

  • 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. // Lights & Visuals in the courtyard: Outdoor mapping from Chemnitz with Metamerie and Tomski from Kassel

Thank you!

We would also like to thank the Chaos Computer Club Chemnitz (CCCC or ChCh) and Computertruhe for their spontaneous support with technology and lighting installation! We would also like to thank all of the association's friends who are helping us with the opening—it's only thanks to all these helping hands and minds that this is possible!
