IMPORTANT INFO
We have been moving with all our stuff since December 2023. Our new location is the Stadtwirtschaft. Unfortunately, we are therefore unable to offer an open workshop for the time being. Visit our homepage regularly to find out the latest news from us.

Filled, turned, screwed - this is the current status

By Alina Wilken, 26 November, 2024

How stressful can a move be? … Very stressful - everyone here at the Lab knows that by now! Nevertheless, we're not letting all the work get us down! A lot has happened since the official handover in September. In this article, we want to keep you briefly up to date and summarize the most important things.

Community area

We are working hard in every corner. The most obvious first: we were able to build a functioning, but not yet finished kitchen! The small kitchen unit was only recently installed and has been available for general use ever since. The water is also running - and has been hot since November! - and we have installed a small kitchen counter. The dishwasher and a small fridge are also fully functional. If you want to get a coffee, you still have to walk a few steps further. As far as the rest of the furnishings are concerned, our number one priority is still to restore the common room to a sensible state. This doesn't just apply to the furnishings, but also to making the north walls usable, which have suffered greatly from the damp and will remain in this state for a long time to come due to the unfinished moisture barrier on the outside. Mathieu and Tino are currently in the process of sorting this out practically by covering it in a smart and appropriate way.

Wood workshop

Our strong men have also been hard at work in the wood workshop. The first shelves have been bolted to the walls and are bombproof for carrying heavy storage loads. Wooden planks, boards and other offcuts are stored here. This is good and important for the first woodwork, which will enable us to do one thing or another.

Metal workshop

Right next door, drywall construction will begin in the metal workshop in week 48 to make the unrenovated ceiling, which is still crumbling, fit and to reinstall lamps. In line with this, the workshop equipment has already been stocked up: Smoke detectors, two eye showers for the wood and metal workshop, safety goggles and respirators will now ensure that we are well protected not only during but also after the move.

In addition …

Other fun facts: There is now also an outside bell on the big door in the courtyard! The heating works and can now be controlled by every member via the tablet in the kitchen! We can also use the toilets, even if the work on them is not yet 100% finished!

Unfortunately, the workshop areas are not yet ready for operation. It will probably be a few months before they are. As sad as we are about this fact… it's worth it! You can see the first signs of what our Fablab will become and be in the future. Many of our members are working hard in their free time to get everything ready so that we can be proud of the end result.

Help out

You want the workshop to open faster? Great! So do we! Every member can actively support us with all kinds of conversion work. Just come along on Wednesday from 16:00, grab a pair of work gloves and ask what still needs to be done. We look forward to seeing you! If you would like to become a member despite the building site, please contact us.
